Consisting of correspondence; certificates; newspaper clippings; published, illustrated auction catalogs, 1955-1958, and other materials relating to sales of shorthorn cattle at Creekland Farms and elsewhere; and unbound volume of speeches given, 1957-1958, by Bailey to various civic and professional organizations, school groups, and employees of his textile mills, many of which discuss the textile industry in Clinton, or other industries, such as cultivation of peaches and cotton, and other topics such as state spending on education. Personal documents included are a 1923 report card from Presbyterian College; pedigree registration certificates, 1930-1931, with the American Kennel Club for P.S. Bailey's Boston Terrier, and undated pedigree chart for his dog, Bailey's Alice; farm accounts, Jan. 1939-Apr. 1940, for labor, mules, fertilizer, lumber, etc.; and elector registration certificates, 1931, for Laurens County, S.C. Financial documents include a year-end statement of assets and liabilities for 1910 for "The Bailey Clothing Company," handwritten verso of letterhead staionery of this Columbia, S.C., store located on Main Street; Printed bill, 2 May 1932, Clinton, S.C., Silas Bailey "in account with Miss Edna Adair, R.N.," listing medical expenses and treatment by a registered nurse, and list of 8 standard fees and practices, "approved and adopted by the private duty section of the S.C. State Nurse's Association." Invoice, 19 Mar. 1934, for a Chrysler Plymouth car purchased from Clinton Motor Company, plus tires purchased from H.D. Payne Co., at a total cost of $709, half of which Bailey paid in cash; bank certificate, 20 Mar. 1934, from M.S. Bailey and Son, Bankers (Clinton, S.C.), for loan of $390.voter registration certifications, 5 July 1934, for Putsy Silas Bailey and Mrs. [Ouida Cox] Bailey. Undated accounts [ca. 1949?] with Muriel Lumber Company for wood used in the construction of various five- and four-room houses complete with bathrooms, as well as a store, presumably for a mill village for the Clinton and Lydia Textile Mills; house designs described as of the "Florence St. type" or of the "concrete type"; and promisory note, 10 June 1956, from E.W. Ferguson to P.S. Bailey; signatures of members, 21 Nov. 1958, in the Clinton and Lydia Old Timer's Club, listing textile mill employees sending Bailey "An Expression of Appreciation." Nine scrapbooks, 1940, 1948-1958, compiled by Bailey's wife, Ouida Cox Bailey, contain newspaper clippings and photographs concerning life in the mill villages, improvements in the mills, service awards presentations, textile leagues and little league baseball, women's softball, Creekland Farms cattle, Presbyterian College, One Million Safe Man-Hours celebrations, and activities of the Bailey's daughter Emily. Other items include Creekland Farms account book, 1955-1956; and ca. 90 photographs and photo album, 1956-1958, housed with visual images collections.
